In everything I do, from the toddler groups to birthday parties, I aim for everyone to have picked up a little information, a little understanding of this Sussex landscape, during their time immersed in the countryside.
The school visits and home educated groups might be more obviously educational, but everyone who comes will notice a plant or creature, ask a question or discover something new.
Understanding the landscape generates a connection, and creates the desire to care for and protect our environment.

This group is for 2-4 year olds, with their grown-ups.
It runs at the beautiful, private Bluebell Wood at Arlington, near Hailsham. We meet on fortnightly Fridays, all the year round except August, having fun exploring, telling stories and crafting, all at a small person's pace. With teas and coffees provided, it's appreciated by the grown-ups just as much as the children! More details on the Bluebell Club page. Home education group for 4-9 year olds, meeting fortnightly in term time, all year round. We use the private woods at Folkington and Abbots Wood in Arlington, together with a handful of downland sites. We look at all kinds of subjects from fossils and bones to twig identification, and we make good use of bushcraft skills.
More details on the Forest Folk page. Bring your class to the woods for a unique experience! All kinds of subjects can be covered, from Saxons to Robin Hood, pirates to The Three Little Pigs...
It's also suitable for secondary biology and geography case studies. There are too many options to cover here, so if you're interested, just contact Sarah and a bespoke day can be devised for you. |
This is a group for 2-4 year olds, with their grown-ups.
It runs at the private farmland and woodland at Folkington, near Polegate. We meet on fortnightly Tuesdays, all the year except August and September, enjoying playing with nature, acting out stories and making things, all at a gentle pace. More details on the Acorn Folk page. Home education group for 9-13 year olds, meeting monthly in the woods, fields and hills of Folkington. The general understanding of the environment is sharpened by more technical knowledge, for example maps and navigation, plant biology, animal adaptation, practical maths, historical sources and design.
More details on the Oak Folk page. Brownies and cubs love the opportunity to work in the woods, building shelters, lighting and cooking on fires, earning wildlife, explore or local history badges amongst many others.
Sessions can be held at your usual meeting time. Contact Sarah for more information and to create a great event for your group. Sessions start at £50 per group. |
